The silk is one of the most enchanting and charming materials: amazingly strong, but at the same time sensual-gentle, caressing and exciting. Silk has an amazing feature – it adapts itself to a person: when the weather is fresh, it warms, when stuffy – cools. But not only for this is appreciated silk – clothing pieces from silk are stunningly beautiful and durable. There is nothing more exciting than a woman in a silk dress that envelops and caresses her body, emphasizing all her dignities. So I could not bypass this beautiful material and as usuall I’m going to start with the history.
Legend of silk
The secret of silk manufacturing was discovered in China five thousand years ago. An ancient legend says that once the 14-year-old Si Ling Chi, the wife of the third Chinese emperor Huang Di, who was also called the “Yellow Emperor”, was drinking tea in the garden of the palace under the mulberry tree, and a cocoon of silkworm fell into her cup of tea from the tree. The young empress and her maidens were extremely surprised to see how in the hot water the cocoon began to unfold, releasing a thin silk thread. Interested, the girl began to observe how the cocoon unfolded. Si Ling Chi was so impressed with the beauty and strength of the silk thread that she collected thousands of cocoons and from them wove the emperor clothes. Such a tiny silkworm butterfly was presented to all mankind as silk, and the empress in gratitude for such a valuable gift was elevated to the rank of deity.
